چکیده
In this work nanoscale features that are of importance in the stability yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia (Y-TZP) quantified through atom probe tomography . In-depth analysis grain boundary chemistry revealed preferential segregation lighter and smaller ions towards specific boundaries. The relationship between elemental local atomistic structure is investigated at sub-nanometer level to gain insights on associated with tetragonal-monoclinic phase transformation Y-TZP characterization. Nanoscale Microstructural Analyses by Atom Probe Field Ion Microscopy
Recent progress in atom probe field ion microscopy (APFIM) and its applications to nanoscale microstructural studies of metallic materials are reviewed. By employing a three dimensional atom probe (3DAP), it is possible to map out elemental distributions in the real space with almost an atomic resolution, and chemical analysis of interfaces and nanoparticles can be made with improved accuracy i...
متن کاملSubnanometer three-dimensional atom-probe investigation of segregation at MgO/Cu ceramic/metal heterophase interfaces.
Three-dimensional atom-probe (3DAP) microscopy has been applied to the study of segregation at ceramic/metal (C/M) interfaces. In this article, results on the MgO/Cu(X) (where X = Ag or Sb) systems are summarized. Nanometer-size MgO precipitates with atomically clean and atomically sharp interfaces were prepared in these systems by internal oxidation. Segregation of the ternary component (Ag or...
متن کاملAnisotropy of Segregation at Grain Boundaries and Surfaces
The purpose of this article is to review analytical models of the anisotropy of segregation to grain boundaries (GBs) and surfaces, and to evaluate their predictions. A summary of Gibbsian interfacial thermodynamics is provided as an introduction to the topic. This is followed by a historical overview of previous analytical models. A recently developed model of the dependence of GB segregation ...
متن کاملSEGREGATION AT SPECIAL GRAIN BOUNDARIES IN Fe-Si ALLOY BICRYSTALS
The segre ation of silicon to the C=3, 112) and C=S, (013) symmetrical grain boundaries 1 was studied in well-fefined bicrystals of an Fe-l .9 at%Si alloy annealed in the range 773 1173 K using Auger electron spectroscopy. The segregation enthal y, AI1 = -8.1 * 0.5 kJ/mol, and entropy, AS = -69 r 0.4 i/(mol K), were determined for the (013f grain boundary in the temperature range 973 1173 K. Fo...
